State Track

Last Friday/Saturday we went to the State Track meet to watch my brother Tyler run. Tyler did awesome! He got 2nd in both the 1600 meters and the 3200 meters in the 2A division. There is no way I could run that far, let along so fast. He also ran the 800 meters, and the 800 meter leg of the medley relay. The team got 1st in the medley relay! I guess they weren't expected to win but Tyler came from behind and passed the top 800 runner to win. Neat-o! It was really hot last weekend and we all got a little sunburned and had about 10 frozen treats over the course of the meet. It was fun to hang out with Tanner and my mom, and Tyler and my dad when they weren't running around everywhere. Also, a photographer got speared in the knee by a javelin and caused quite a commotion. Also, Brett's cousin Hayley ran the hurdles and did well too. It was a fun weekend!

This is the picture the dude took with a javelin through his leg. Crazy.

Moving and Working

So Brett and I have officially moved from Logan to Roy for the next phase of our lives. Brett has an internship at WesTech Engineering in Salt Lake for the summer. He is working on a project involving ion exchange chromatography. He is running a lot of hydraulic tests analyzing the flow of the liquid and the resin two full scale columns. Once all of the testing and other finalizations are completed he will help install the system at a power plant in Nevada. He has already worked a week and loves it! I am so proud of him- he is so smart, dedicated, and such a hard worker! I am just relaxing a bit after a lifetime of school and will start at WesTech in June working on a membrane filtration project. Once school starts again in the fall Brett will commute to Logan and I will continue going to Salt Lake for work. The driving will stink but that is why we moved to a location in the middle. I was going to put up a picture of Brett on his first day of work but he looked a little rushed so I will put a picture of our apartment up instead.

Here is a picture of our new apartment in the background. And in the front is my sister Casey. Casey and I made this cake for her birthday celebration and felt like chefs to decorate such a fancy cake. It was fun!

GRADUATION!

As of May 3rd I am officially a college grad! I graduated with my B.S. in Biological Engineering from Utah State University. First came the graduation march across campus. I grouped up with my BIE friends and we marched from the Quad to the Spectrum to the traditional graduation tune. To be quite honest, I had no idea what was going on- luckily Brett did, and he guided my family to the side of the march and took some pictures. Once we got to the Spectrum all of the faculty were lined up on the side and cheered us on as we marched through the tunnel. We all sat in the middle of the floor with the crowd in the bleachers. I was trying to find my family practically the whole time but with no success. So I just kept on smiling in case they were recording me unknowingly, and it turned out they were right behind me the whole time and I just missed them every time I looked.

The Engineering graduation ceremony was at the Kent Concert Hall afterward. We lined up by department, and mine was first because we are obviously the best. The boys in my major thought it would be entertaining to skip into the ceremony instead of doing the traditional march. We rehearsed this extensively before we went in but all of the girls chickened out when it came down to it. Some of the boys did skip though and looked quite ridiculous. A very few words were spoken and it was time to receive the diplomas. I was the 5th person in line and had no idea what was going on. My name was read and I walked across the stage (apparently much quicker than I even thought), shook the Dean's hand, and then Dr. Sims' hand. There were four more people in line but they were separated a bit from the others, and for some strange reason I thought they were just there to stand by and supervise the procession. Actually, they were there to shake hands also and I completely skipped the first two before realizing what was going on. I completed the final two shakes and finished walking across the stage. After, everyone was making fun of me for walking so quickly and being such a dork. I couldn't see what I was supposed to do and I got nervous. Besides, it is a funnier story this way than if I would have done everything properly!
I was cruising!

Family

I dropped this cake when I picked it up to take this picture. Then, I snatched it out of the air before the tiny tassel on the cake even move. Sometimes I amaze myself.
